Adobe launches AI-powered ‘Firefly Bulk Create’ for mass image editing

Adobe has unveiled a new generative AI tool, “Firefly Bulk Create,” designed to streamline the editing of large image batches.

This tool allows users to resize or replace backgrounds in up to 10,000 images with a single click, significantly reducing the time spent on manual edits.

Firefly Bulk Create makes use of Adobe’s suite of Firefly-powered APIs, making advanced image editing more accessible to creatives without coding experience.

Currently in beta, the tool is split into two functionalities: “Remove Background” and “Resize.” Users can upload images directly from their devices, Dropbox, or Adobe Experience Manager to swiftly remove or replace backgrounds with specific images or colors.

The “Remove Background” tool is particularly valuable for product marketers, offering the ability to generate multiple background variations for product images. Output formats include PNG and JPEG, with future support for Photoshop PSD files.

The “Resize” tool provides preset options for popular social media and ad platform dimensions like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. The tool could save graphic designers time when adapting assets for different platforms.

In addition to Bulk Create, Adobe plans to release new Firefly developer APIs aimed at enhancing video and print production workflows. Features include “Dubbing and Lip Sync” for translating and syncing video audio in 14 languages, and an InDesign tool for automating text and image formatting. Also in beta are “digital avatars” for video presentations, created from text descriptions and voice recordings.

Adobe has indicated that usage of these AI tools will be fee-based, depending on consumption, likely requiring a premium Firefly plan with generative credits.
