Android 15 now available for Pixel devices, bringing privacy and security enhancements

Android 15 has officially started rolling out to Google Pixel devices, delivering updated privacy, security, and productivity features.

Initially released through the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) last month, the stable build of the update is now available on Pixel phones and tablets alongside a Pixel feature drop.

As detailed in Google’s official announcement, one of the standout features is the new Private Space, which allows users to hide sensitive apps such as social, dating, or banking apps. Apps within this space are invisible in recent apps, notifications, or settings, and require additional authentication to access. Users can also completely hide the existence of this space from view.

Another major update is Theft Detection Lock, which uses AI to detect if a phone has been stolen. If suspicious activity, such as a thief running away with the device, is detected, the phone will automatically lock.

Remote Lock is also introduced, allowing users to lock their phone from another Android device using a simple security check. These features will be available for most devices running Android 10 and above.

Android 15 introduces productivity improvements for foldables and tablets, such as the ability to pin and unpin the taskbar, giving users faster access to their favorite apps. Users can also set up app pairing, enabling quick access to frequently used app combinations with a single tap in split-screen mode.

Alongside the Android 15 rollout, Google has launched its October Pixel feature drop, which includes Night Sight for Instagram, improving low-light photography, and more control over Audio Magic Eraser. Additionally, a new feature coming in the next few weeks will allow media transfers between a Pixel phone and Pixel tablet simply by holding the devices near each other.

As with any major Android update, Android 15 is available first on Google’s Pixel devices before versions of it arrive to select devices from other companies in the coming months.
