The Model Context Protocol (MCP),as described in Anthropic’s recent blog post, acts like a universal translator, allowing AI to easily read documents from the likes of Google Drive, Slack, and GitHub.
Previously, connecting AI to company data was complicated and time-consuming. Each system required a custom setup, making it hard for AI to quickly find and use information.
The new protocol solves this by creating a standard connection method that works across multiple platforms, ensuring that sophisticated AI models are not constrained by data isolation.
Early companies like Block are already testing the technology. The goal is to help AI understand context better — so it can provide more accurate and helpful answers.
“Open technologies like the Model Context Protocol are the bridges that connect AI to real-world applications, ensuring innovation is accessible, transparent, and rooted in collaboration,” said Dhanji R. Prasanna, Chief Technology Officer at Block.
Companies like Replit and GitHub are working to incorporate this new connection method. This means AI could soon understand project details faster and help workers more effectively.
Developers can start using the new protocol immediately through special software tools Anthropic is providing.
This new technology should make it much easier for AI to understand and use company information, potentially saving businesses time and improving AI’s ability to help with work tasks.
