Bitcoin supporter Pierre Poilievre overwhelming favorite to be Canada’s next PM

Conservative Party leader and known cryptocurrency advocate Pierre Poilievre has emerged as the frontrunner to become Canada's next Prime Minister.

Event-based trading firm Polymarket showed 89% odds in Poilievre’s favor. His closest competitors, Chrystia Freeland and Jagmeet Singh, trail at 5% and 2% respectively.

The forecasts follow current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement of his planned resignation once his Liberal Party chooses a successor. Canada must hold a federal election before October 2025, in which the Conservative Party is expected to win decisively amid the Liberal Party’s political turmoil within.

Poilievre has gained prominence in the crypto community for his pro-Bitcoin stance and opposition to central bank digital currency. In 2022, he reportedly invested in Purpose Bitcoin ETF, demonstrating his commitment to cryptocurrency adoption. He has also gone on record as saying that he plans to make Canada the blockchain and crypto capital of the world.

Since joining Parliament in 2004, Poilievre has advocated for reduced government intervention and increased economic freedom. Poilievre’s potential leadership could signal a shift toward more favorable blockchain and digital asset policies in Canada.
