Google Maps rolls out AI-powered review summaries and new features in India

Mapping out one’s journey in India is going to be a whole lot more practical, as Google has introduced new AI-powered features for its Maps service in India.

The new additions include review summaries and enhanced search capabilities for experiences, alongside weather alerts for fog and flooding.

During its annual Google for India event today, Google announced the new Google Maps features, tailored specifically for Indian users. One of the major updates is the inclusion of AI-powered review summaries, which will analyze reviews and present users with concise evaluations of places.

This feature, already available in the US since February, offers users a quicker way to get insights into businesses and locations.

In addition, users can now search for experiences on Maps, such as “unique picnic spots” or specific services like “themed birthday cakes.” Google Maps will prioritize photos from businesses and users, offering an image-first experience that helps users visualize options more clearly.

The new features also include weather alerts, such as notifications for low visibility due to fog and road flooding, ensuring safer navigation.

These updates follow Google’s ongoing efforts to improve its services in India. In July, the company added features like enhanced navigation for flyovers, narrow roads, EV charging stations, and community-powered place discovery lists.

The AI-powered review summaries and other updates are set to roll out in India later this month, enhancing the overall user experience on the platform.
