Chinese sex doll manufacturer WMDoll is expecting a 30% sales boost in 2025, thanks to the surge of artificial intelligence enhancements that improve user interaction.
The company has integrated open-source large language models (LLMs) into its latest product line, allowing for more responsive and interactive experiences for its users.
Founder and CEO Liu Jiangxia stated that customer feedback on the AI-powered dolls has been positive.
“It makes the dolls more responsive and interactive, which offers users a better experience,” Liu told the South China Morning Post.
WMDoll’s latest MetaBox series embeds an AI module that connects to cloud computing services, processing interactions in real time. The company leverages open-source LLMs, including Meta’s Llama models, which can be fine-tuned and deployed across different markets.
Unlike traditional sex dolls, which offer limited responses, the AI-powered models feature advanced conversational abilities, memory retention, and customizable “personalities.” The dolls can recall past conversations and respond with greater emotional nuance.
WMDoll’s adoption of AI follows a wave of innovation in China’s high-tech manufacturing sector, where companies are integrating advanced models into robots, consumer electronics, and electric vehicles. The firm began exploring AI in 2023 after the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and in 2024, it shipped over 100 prototypes of its AI-enhanced dolls to customers in North America and Europe—its largest markets.
The new models are priced at US$100 to US$200 more than current versions, which range from US$1,500 to US$2,000. Users will also incur monthly AI service fees after the first year. To address privacy concerns, WMDoll offers a one-click data deletion function and ensures that all user data remains stored locally.
Despite growing competition from Shenzhen-based Starpery Technology, which is developing AI-powered dolls with enhanced emotional intelligence, WMDoll believes its cost advantages in raw materials and labor give it an edge. The company is also collaborating with Shenzhen-based Mind with Heart Robotics to develop dolls with lifelike facial expressions and body movements.
Founded in 2010 as a mannequin manufacturer, WMDoll pivoted to sex dolls in 2012. Today, it sells under brands like AngelKiss, Galatea, and JKDoll, with 90% of its sales coming from overseas markets. The US accounts for half of its exports, though the company has had to adjust pricing strategies in response to tariff increases.
Looking ahead, WMDoll is developing a wearable device that allows non-AI dolls to access its LLM-powered system, signaling further expansion in AI-integrated adult products.
