iOS 18.1, and with it Apple Intelligence, to finally arrive October 28

Apple Intelligence, the tech giant’s much-anticipated AI system, is expected to debut on October 28, according to a renowned Apple insider.

The launch of the iPhone 16 series—Apple’s latest smartphones—last month was marked with disappointment as the devices did not immediately come equipped with Apple Intelligence.

Instead, the feature is expected to arrive in the iOS 18.1 update of Apple’s latest iPhone operating system, and only for the latest iPhone series as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max (cries in iPhone 11).

In an article about Apple slowly moving away from its annual product release strategy, Bloomberg’s Apple analyst Mark Gurman wrote that Apple Intelligence is coming to the iPhone on iOS 18.1, as well as other Apple devices running on iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, which are all rolling out to the public on October 28 (beta versions have been available for a few weeks).

“I’m told that Apple is taking its time with the rollout to ensure that major bugs are eliminated and it can support all the new traffic on its AI cloud servers,” Gurman wrote.

The first phase of Apple Intelligence will include features like Writing Tools, text summarization and transcription for supported apps, as well as new AI-powered image editing capabilities in Photos, such as background removal.

ChatGPT integration and the Genmoji are expected to arrive in later iOS 18 updates that will roll out towards the end of the year and in early 2025.

Before these updates arrive, your newest iPhones are going to remain same-same, but not all that different, from previous editions.
