Nasdaq to list BlackRock’s IBIT options starting today

Nasdaq Inc. will begin listing options on BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) today.

This follows regulatory clearance from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for the Options Clearing Corporation.

“Our intent at Nasdaq is to list and trade these options as early as tomorrow,” said Alison Hennessy, Head of ETP Listings at Nasdaq, during yesterday’s episode of Bloomberg’s ETF IQ series.

“Getting these options listed on IBIT into the market will be very exciting for investors because that’s really what we have heard from them.”

The development follows 10 months of collaboration between Nasdaq and BlackRock with regulators to secure approval.

IBIT has accumulated nearly US$30 billion in assets since its launch — leading all spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETF) in size.

The addition of options trading on Bitcoin ETFs represents a significant expansion of cryptocurrency investment tools for institutional investors, potentially increasing market participation and trading volumes in the crypto sector.
