NVIDIA dominates GPU supply in India’s US$1 billion AI mission

NVIDIA is emerging as the preferred supplier of graphics processing units (GPUs) for India’s ambitious ₹10,000 crore (US$1.17 billion) AI initiative.

Among the 19 companies submitting bids for the project, the majority have chosen NVIDIA’s GPUs over alternatives from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Intel.

The IndiaAI mission, spearheaded by the Indian government, aims to distribute 10,000 GPUs to bolster AI capabilities across sectors, benefiting start-ups, researchers, students, and academic institutions.

NxtGen Datacenter and Cloud Technologies, one of the bidders, has proposed a mix of NVIDIA (55%), AMD (43%), and Intel (2%) GPUs, offering a total of 1,088 units. The company plans to invest in advanced models such as NVIDIA H200 and AMD MI325X to stay competitive. Meanwhile, Cyfuture, another bidder, has submitted a proposal with 70% NVIDIA and 30% AMD GPUs to meet diverse project requirements.

Both firms emphasize the importance of strategic diversity and collaboration. NxtGen is in active talks with Intel to finalize additional initiatives by January, while Cyfuture underlines the value of aligning with the guidelines set in the project’s Request For Empanelment (RFE).

With NVIDIA leading the pack, India’s AI mission is set to accelerate innovation, powered by cutting-edge GPU technology tailored to meet the nation’s needs for its digital evolution.
