Perplexity acquires professional network Read.cv, platform to wind down in May

AI search company Perplexity has acquired Read.cv, a LinkedIn competitor focused on professional networking, as the US$9 billion startup continues expanding its enterprise offerings.

Read.cv will cease operations this Friday, giving users until May 16 to export their profiles, posts, and other data. The platform’s .cv domain service will transition to Hello.cv starting January 31.

Founded in 2021 by former Facebook product designer Andy Chung, Read.cv offered resume sharing, professional networking, and recruitment tools.

This marks Perplexity’s third acquisition, following deals with AI data connection specialist Carbon and mobile app developer Spellwise. The company has raised over US$500 million in funding and recently enhanced its enterprise features with user management and internal knowledge search capabilities.

“The team is incredibly capable in designing and building consumer and social experiences and we look forward to working with them on many new exciting directions!” said Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas on X.

While specific plans for integrating Read.cv’s technology remain unclear, the acquisition speaks towards Perplexity’s growing focus on enterprise solutions and suggests continued expansion in the professional services sector.
