Polish presidential hopeful Sławomir Mentzen has promised to turn Poland into a cryptocurrency hub and establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve if he wins the 2025 election. The announcement comes on the heels of US President-elect Donald Trump’s similar proposal for a national Bitcoin reserve.
Mentzen, leader of the New Hope party and a prominent figure in the right-wing Confederation coalition, made his Bitcoin pledge on X (formerly Twitter) on November 17, stating: “Poland should create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.” He added, “If I become the President of Poland, our country will become a cryptocurrency haven, with very friendly regulations, low taxes, and a supportive approach from banks and regulators. BTC to the Moon!”
The pledge aligns with Mentzen’s broader appeal to younger voters and his vision of national conservatism blended with cryptocurrency innovation. A vocal advocate of lower taxes and deregulation, Mentzen has cultivated a strong social media following, particularly on TikTok, where his informal “Beers with Mentzen” campaign events have become popular.
Despite his rising popularity, Mentzen faces tough competition. Polls suggest he trails behind leading candidates, including Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and parliamentary Speaker Szymon Hołownia, all of whom are in a statistical tie with roughly 25% voter support. Mentzen’s backing, while notable, remains lower, with Confederation’s appeal largely concentrated among younger male voters.
Mentzen’s candidacy reflects the Confederation coalition’s efforts to capitalize on the growing intersection of populist politics and tech-forward economic policies. Should the polls go Mentzen’s way, then Poland could be well on its way to becoming a global crypto powerhouse.
