Prime Video launches AI-powered recaps so viewers don’t get lost between seasons

With studios and platforms often requiring years to release new seasons of your favorite shows, it’s understandable that you'd blank on half the story as soon as you tune back in.

Intending to take away the need for you to scour the web for recaps, Prime Video has launched X-Ray Recaps, an AI-driven feature that gives you an instant, personalized TL;DR of your show so you can dive right in.

Now available in beta on Fire TV in the US, X-Ray Recaps uses Amazon’s Bedrock and SageMaker models to generate detailed, real-time snippets based on what you’ve watched so far. This includes everything from cliffhangers and plot twists to key dialogue.

Whether you’re a few minutes into an episode or catching up after a break, the recap adjusts to your spot in the story. This is part of Amazon’s X-Ray feature suite, which already lets viewers explore trivia, cast info, and soundtrack details as they stream.

Prime Video’s Adam Gray, VP of Product, notes that X-Ray Recaps was created to address a common viewer problem: the forgetfulness that comes with long breaks between episodes or seasons.

“With this context-aware functionality, Prime Video will deliver summaries of memorable moments and important plot points,” he said.

Gray emphasizes that the feature helps users “rediscover why they fell in love with a series in the first place,” even if life’s interruptions led to some lost details. Notably, Amazon has assured viewers that the AI won’t generate spoilers for their show.

Prime Video will roll out X-Ray Recaps on all Amazon MGM Studios Originals, including popular titles like Daisy Jones & The Six, Upload, and The Boys, with plans for additional support by the end of the year. With the feature, hopefully people will be reminded of the fact that The Boys’ Homelander is a murderous megalomaniac and a villain, and not an anti-hero to be revered.
