Anthropic, a key competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and backed by Google and Amazon, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the UK government to support the initiative.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has positioned artificial intelligence as a cornerstone of the UK’s future, pledging to establish the country as an AI “superpower” by boosting public sector productivity and adopting a pro-innovation regulatory approach.
“Today’s partnership with Anthropic delivers our commitment to make the UK the best place to build frontier AI, so the benefits of this transformative technology are felt by people and businesses across the country,” said Peter Kyle, the UK’s technology minister.
Claude is already being used by public institutions, including the European Parliament, which leverages the AI tool to streamline document searches and enhance archive accessibility.
